Norway – Freerando boat trip in the Lyngen Alps

Lingen Alps — The Other Norway
There is a mountain range in Norway that skiers from all over the world are only just beginning to discover. Far from the hustle and bustle of Lofoten, far from the classic Nordic resorts, the Lingen Alps stretch north of Tromsø, between the Lyngen fjord and the Finnish border — a vast ski touring area of spectacular beauty and rare quality.
Here, the peaks soar to over 1,800 meters and plunge directly into the dark waters of the fjords. The slopes are pristine, the routes endless, the snow cold and dry, carried by the Arctic weather systems that sweep across the Lyngen Peninsula from October to May. And in the evening, from your boat on the fjord's edge, the Northern Lights illuminate the sky above the peaks you descended during the day.
The Lingen Alps represent the heart of Norway: wild, silent, magnetic. A freeride touring area that rivals the best Nordic spots, but without the crowds of the Lofoten Islands. Again.
👉 For skiers looking for something different from what they've already done — this trip is for you.

What level of skiing is required for the Lyngen Alps? This trip is for experienced skiers , comfortable in off-piste terrain and accustomed to ski touring. Proficiency in skinning is essential—each day involves an ascent of 600 to 1,200 meters of elevation gain. No need to be an expert in technical couloirs; our guide adapts the routes to the actual skill level of the group.

Can we see the Northern Lights during the trip? Yes, between February and March, the Northern Lights are common in the Lyngen region. The boat's location on the fjord's edge, far from any light pollution, offers optimal viewing conditions. Sightings are never guaranteed—they depend on solar activity and cloud cover—but trips in March statistically offer the best chances.

Are the Lyngen Alps different from the Lofoten Islands? Yes, significantly so. The Lofoten Islands are now very popular with freeriders from all over the world. The Lyngen Alps, in the Lyngen massif, offer comparable terrain—or even superior terrain in terms of vertical drop and diversity—in a still very pristine and uncrowded setting. This is the advantage of choosing this area now, before it too becomes a mainstream destination.

Can the trip be booked privately for a group of friends? Yes, and it's the option we highly recommend. A group of 4 to 10 friends with a dedicated guide is ideal for tailoring the pace, itinerary, and atmosphere to your group. We can easily arrange private departures on dates that suit you.
