Expert Guide · L’Or Blanc Travel
Level, budget, comfort, snow, exclusivity: L'Or Blanc Travel's on-the-ground comparison to help you choose the right destination.
There's one question almost all our clients ask before booking their heli-skiing trip to Canada. Not "Am I good enough?", not "What equipment should I bring?" — no. The question is this:
“Which lodge should I choose?”
And that's the right one. Because in Canada, you don't just choose a destination—you choose a complete experience. A terrain, an atmosphere, a level of exclusivity, a type of snow, a relationship with skiing. Bella Coola is not like Skeena. Stellar is not Bell 2. Each lodge has its own character, its own strengths, its own requirements.
For over ten years, our guides have skied in each of these mountain ranges, season after season. This comparison is based on what they tell us over a drink in the evening — not what you read in brochures.

01 The method for making the right choice
Before comparing lodges, ask yourself three questions. Your answers will determine 80% of your choice.
Question 1: What is your actual skill level? Not your ideal level, not your level on the best winter days—your average level, off-piste, with fatigue at the end of the day. Heli-skiing is physically and technically demanding, and some terrain is significantly more challenging than others.
Question 2: What are you primarily looking for? The amount of elevation gain? Exclusivity and tranquility? The comfort of the lodge? Wild nature? Proximity to a major Canadian city? There is no right answer — but there is an answer that is right for you.
Question 3: What is your total budget? The price differences between lodges are significant—from €6,686 to over €11,000—and don't always reflect a proportional difference in skiing quality. Sometimes, the least expensive lodges offer the most pristine terrain.
02 Bella Coola — The Spectacular
Who it's for: Intermediate to expert skiers who want to experience heliskiing to the fullest. Budget: From €7,030 (including VAT) Recommended level: Good to expert off-piste skiers
Field
Bella Coola is first and foremost about breathtaking valleys . Deep and narrow, framed by rocky walls and centuries-old spruce forests, they create a landscape that remains etched in the memory. The descents are long—some runs exceeding 1,500 to 2,000 meters of vertical drop without interruption—on varied terrain that alternates between wide open slopes, sparse forests, and natural gullies.
The snow
The proximity of the Pacific Ocean and the altitude of the snowpack produce light, deep snow with consistent accumulations throughout the season. Bella Coola rarely disappoints in this regard.
The atmosphere
The lodge is comfortable without being ostentatious. The atmosphere is that of a family of passionate skiers—guides, staff, and guests—who share the same addiction to powder. In the evening, stories of the day's runs are recounted around the fire.
What we like
- Some of the most impressive downhill runs in British Columbia
- A terrain suitable for a wide range of skill levels
- Consistently excellent snow
What to expect
- A simple but welcoming lodge, not a palace
- A terrain that demands true mastery of off-piste skiing.
Our verdict: The benchmark destination. If we had to choose just one for a first "serious" heliskiing experience, it would often be Bella Coola.
03 Northern Escape — Reliability in all weather conditions
For whom: Skiers who want to maximize their chances of good conditions, whatever the weather. Budget: From €7,030 (including VAT) Recommended level: Intermediate to advanced
Field
Northern Escape has built its reputation on a major strategic advantage: the diversity of its areas at different altitudes . When the weather complicates visibility at higher elevations, the guides always have a plan B—and often a plan C. This is invaluable in a region where weather systems can change rapidly.
The terrain is varied, easy to read, with a good alternation between open slopes and forests that offer refuge and adrenaline in poor visibility.
The snow
The area's snowfall is renowned as one of the most abundant and consistent in all of British Columbia. Snowfall is frequent and regular, with few dry spells during the season.
The atmosphere
The accommodation is of premium quality, with attentive service. Northern Escape focuses on the overall experience of the stay, not just the skiing — making it a popular destination for travelers who want to combine performance on the slopes with comfort upon arrival.
What we like
- The ability to find excellent runs even in bad weather
- A lodge and service commensurate with the investment made
- Ideal for a first heli-skiing experience without any unpleasant surprises
What to expect
- A slightly less “extreme” terrain than Bella Coola or Skeena
- A more hotel-like experience, less of a “raw adventure”
Our verdict: The sensible choice. If you only have one week and can't afford bad weather, Northern Escape is your best insurance policy.
04 Bell 2 Lodge (Last Frontier) — The Best First Heliski
For whom: First-time skiers, groups of varying skill levels. Budget: From €6,686 (VAT included). Recommended level: Intermediate
Field
Bell 2 Lodge belongs to the Last Frontier concession , one of the largest heli-skiing areas in the world. The domain is immense—several thousand square kilometers—with a perfectly honed heli-skiing infrastructure. Flights run smoothly, groups are well-supervised, and the terrain is varied enough to suit every skill level.
This is precisely why Bell 2 is regularly recommended for a first heliskiing trip : the logistics are impeccable, the guides are used to accompanying skiers of all levels, and the terrain does not hold any unpleasant surprises for solid intermediate skiers.
The lodge
Bell 2 Lodge is one of the best-equipped in the area — sauna, jacuzzi, excellent food, comfortable rooms. After an intense day on the slopes, it's exactly what you need.
What we like
- The best value for money in our selection
- An accessible site that excludes no one
- A perfectly oiled heli-skiing logistics system
- The comfort of the lodge after the exertion
What to expect
- Less geographic “wow factor” than Bella Coola
- A more “industrial” experience in terms of customer volume
Our verdict: The lodge is highly recommended for first-timers. Excellent terrain, excellent comfort, excellent guidance. The best place to fall in love with heliskiing.
05 Ripley Creek (Last Frontier) — The Authentic Savage
For whom: Lovers of unspoiled nature, long routes, and pure adventure. Budget: From €6,686 (VAT included) Recommended level: Intermediate+ to advanced
Field
Same concession as Bell 2, but a radically different philosophy. Ripley Creek is heliskiing in its rawest expression : immense massifs, almost untouched by human activity, a vast terrain that appeals to those who seek to ski far, long and without restraint.
The local fauna — elk, bears, wolves that you can spot from the helicopter — reminds you that you are in one of the last great wilderness areas on the continent.
The atmosphere
More rustic than Bell 2, Ripley Creek embraces its identity as an authentic adventure. People don't come here for the spa – they come for the runs, the silence, and the feeling of being at the end of the world.
What we like
- Immensity and freedom
- An incomparable wild nature
- The same affordable price as Bell 2 for a more engaging experience
What to expect
- A more spartan level of comfort than other lodges
- A course that requires a solid skill level to fully enjoy.
Our verdict: For skiers who prefer the thrill of adventure to the comfort of a hotel. A memorable experience for all the right reasons.
06 Tyax Whistler — Premium Heliskiing Near Whistler
For whom: Travelers wishing to combine heliskiing and downhill skiing at a resort. Budget: From €9,350 (all taxes included). Recommended level: Advanced
Field
Tyax stands out thanks to its strategic location : within easy reach of Whistler, the largest ski resort in North America. This makes it possible to combine a few days of downhill skiing with a heli-skiing program—an option we recommend to travelers who want to maximize their Canadian stay.
Tyax terrain is varied and technically interesting, with areas suitable for experienced players looking to progress in demanding conditions.
What we like
- The heli-skiing + Whistler combination in a single trip
- A premium level of service and comfort
- Easy access from Vancouver
What to expect
- A higher price than Bell 2 or Ripley Creek
- An experience less "at the ends of the earth" than more remote lodges
Our verdict: The ideal choice for a first trip to Canada that doesn't want to sacrifice Whistler.
07 Stellar Heliskiing — Le Confidential
Who it's for: Expert skiers who want a highly personalized experience, away from the crowds. Budget: From €9,998 (VAT included) Recommended level: Advanced to expert
Field
Stellar deliberately cultivates scarcity. Very small groups, secluded ski areas, an atmosphere akin to a private tour. What you're buying at Stellar is as much exclusivity as the skiing itself — and both are guaranteed.
The terrain is technical, demanding, and renowned for the quality and consistency of its snow cover. Stellar isn't looking for volume—it's looking for the perfect moment.
What we like
- Tiny groups for an almost individual experience
- Supervision of remarkable quality
- Snowfall of a consistency envied by other operators
What to expect
- A significant investment
- A field that demands a solid level of technical skill
Our verdict: For those who refuse to compromise. Heli-skiing as it should always be.
08 Skeena Heliskiing — The Absolute
For whom: Expert skiers who want the ultimate in exclusivity. Budget: From €11,200 (including VAT) Recommended level: Expert
Field
Skeena is the top tier—the one you only reach after exhausting all the others. The areas are among the most remote, least frequented, and most technically challenging in all of British Columbia. Groups are intentionally kept to a minimum.
What Skeena offers can't be found anywhere else: a combination of untouched slopes, absolute exclusivity and impeccable service in a setting that very few skiers will ever have the chance to experience.
What we like
- Exclusivity taken to its maximum
- Virtually unexplored ski areas
- A service and support system for the investment
What to expect
- The highest price in our selection
- A field reserved for true experts
Our verdict: The ultimate Canadian heli-skiing experience. Hard to justify rationally. Impossible to forget.
